Injury Prevention & Screening | Burgess Hill Physio
Prevent Injuries Before They Happen
Our team of specialist physiotherapists at Flex use many years of experience in elite sport to offer a robust Injury Prevention and Screening session. This personalised, yet comprehensive assessment will analyse all aspects of movement, dysfunction and readiness for any sport. See below for more information.

What is Injury Screening?
Injury screening involves a series of assessments to detect biomechanical, neuromuscular, and strength imbalances that may predispose someone to injury. It’s not just about treating pain, it’s about predicting and preventing it.
Who is Injury Screening useful for:
- Young athletes
- Runners
- Gym-goers
- Pre/post-surgery clients
- People returning to sport after injury
Evidence shows tailored injury prevention programmes including precise screening and rehab can cut injury risk by up to 50 percent, using standardised, data driven assessments for all ages.

Screening for Children & Adolescents (Age 8+)
Children and teens are increasingly involved in sport or activity these days, yet many aren’t assessed for injury risk factors such as muscle imbalances, joint hypermobility, or growth-related pains e.g. Osgood-Schlatter, Severs or Scoliosis. Injury screening from age 8+ helps develop good movement habits early, preventing long-term issues.
Why is this important during adolescence?
Because rapid growth affects coordination, strength balance, and joint mechanics, especially in sports like football, netball, rugby, and dance.
What We Test (Objective Measures)
Strength Testing (Including Handheld Dynamometry)
- Assesses muscle imbalances & deficits
- Identifies asymmetry post-injury or from sport-specific loading
- Quantifiable & reproducible
Movement Analysis
- Reveals faulty biomechanics
- Helps screen for valgus collapse, poor trunk control, compensations
- Tracked over time for progress
Running Gait Analysis
- Used for runners of all levels
- Assesses cadence, foot strike, knee control, arm mechanics
- Guides running retraining and footwear advice
Flexibility & Range of Motion (ROM) Testing
- Key for sports involving kicking, gymnastics, or overhead activity
- Helps catch growth spurt-related tightness or asymmetries
Neuromuscular Control & Proprioception Testing
- E.g. Y-Balance Test, Star Excursion Balance Test
- Vital for return-to-sport decisions post-injury
- Indicates risk for ankle sprains, ACL injuries, and more

What Happens After Screening?
You’ll receive a clear report and personalised plan, which may include:
- Targeted strength and mobility programmes
- Movement retraining drills
- Sport-specific rehab
- Follow-up assessments to track progress
