What is Bloom After Birth?
Flex Physiotherapy’s exclusive ‘Bloom After Birth’ appointment goes beyond a standard check-up. Led by a Specialist Pelvic & Women’s Health Physiotherapist, this personalised session tailors to your unique recovery journey. We’ll assess your needs, address any concerns you have about your pelvic floor, core, or other physical changes, and create a plan to help you blossom back to your strongest and healthiest self. What happens at my Bloom After Birth appointment?
- Understand your pregnancy and birth experience, discussing any concerns or challenges you are facing
- Assessment according to type of birth (c-section, episiotomy, vaginal)
- Management of birth related tears
- External Pelvic Floor examination & optional internal examination
- Screening for bladder, bowel, or sexual dysfunction
- Assessment of posture, breathing and tummy muscles
- Assessment of any post childbirth pain, with recommended treatment
- Spine, hips, and lower limb assessment
- Personalised treatment plan including advice regarding pelvic floor strengthening and tailored exercises to enable recovery
- Plan towards return to exercise/running/sport as indicated
What can Bloom After Birth help with?
- Diastasis recti (separated abs, otherwise known as tummy gap or mummy tummy)
- Incontinence
- Prolapse
- Painful intercourse
- Scar rehabilitation
- Caesarean section recovery/pain
- Pelvic girdle pain
- Post-birth vaginal and perineal tears
Who should book in?
All mothers of all ages! Although it is entirely up to you, it is recommended to have a Bloom After Birth appointment and not something that is available on the NHS.

When should I book in?
Typically, from 6 weeks post-delivery after your 6-8 week GP check.

Unfortunately, Bloom After Birth sessions are not covered by Private Health Insurance.
