What is Bloom After Birth?

Bloom After Birth is a physiotherapist led postnatal rehabilitation programme that focuses on recovery, movement confidence and long term pelvic and musculoskeletal health.

It is suitable whether you have delivered vaginally or via caesarean section, and whether you are weeks, months or even years post birth.

The programme integrates women’s health physiotherapy principles with strength and movement rehabilitation to support everyday life, caring for your baby and a safe return to exercise.

What to Expect in a Bloom After Birth Appointment

Supportive Conversation and Goals

We begin with a confidential discussion about your pregnancy, birth, symptoms, lifestyle and goals. This is a calm, supportive space where nothing is rushed.

Education and Reassurance

We explain what changes commonly occur during pregnancy and birth, what is part of normal recovery and what can be improved with rehabilitation.

Physical Assessment

With your consent, assessment may include posture, breathing, abdominal function, hip strength and movement control.

Optional Pelvic Floor Assessment

An internal vaginal examination may be offered if appropriate to assess pelvic floor strength, coordination and tone. This is always optional and only performed with your consent. You can decline or defer this at any point.

Personalised Recovery Plan

Your physiotherapist designs a recovery plan tailored to your body, symptoms and goals. This may include pelvic floor work, core strengthening, movement retraining and advice for daily activities.

Supervised Rehabilitation and Home Exercises

Rehabilitation is guided during appointments and supported with a clear home programme that fits around life with a baby.

When should I book a Bloom After Birth appointment?

Many women choose to book from around six weeks after giving birth, following their GP check. However, it is never too late to attend, and women often benefit months or even years after pregnancy and birth.

Appointments are typically around one hour, allowing time for a thorough assessment, discussion of symptoms and a personalised recovery plan.

No. Internal examination is always optional and only performed with your consent. It can be helpful for assessing pelvic floor strength, coordination and tone, but rehabilitation can still be effective without it.

Yes. We regularly support women following caesarean birth, including scar sensitivity, abdominal strength, movement confidence and return to exercise.

Yes. Many women attend for reassurance, education and guidance even if they are not experiencing pain.

Yes. Pelvic floor symptoms, core weakness or pain can develop later. Postnatal physiotherapy can still be very effective even long after childbirth.
